In the Central List of the Monuments Fund we currently have a total of 443 manor houses and 144 courtyards, of which 51 manor houses and 3 courtyards are registered in the ownership of the state. Among the registered manor houses, 218 manor houses (28 of which are owned by the state) and 8 palaces have a park on their grounds.
What of this do we know and want to save for future generations? How do we as architects and urban planners respond to this state of affairs? Can we restore the dignity, function, beauty and status of these buildings and spaces, which once determined the direction of development of entire regions, to their former dignity, function, beauty and status?
The theme of the vertical studio is to seek answers to these questions.
In the academic year 2023/ 24 we will give priority to the small manor house in the village of Tomášovce, Rimavská Sobota district and its adjacent surroundings. On this object we will be able to go through all phases of the making process during the year, from understanding the context of the site (especially for students with focus to urban design and planning) to real design-built workshops, where we will repair the cura with our own hands together with professional craftsmen and builders.
