The project maps the architectural scenes of selected countries and has so far reflected the contemporary architectural scene of Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Germany, Norway, Hungary, Poland and Ukraine. This year, the series of lectures will present the contemporary English architectural scene. The selection of lecturers includes architects, curators, who represent all active creative generations and the most important tendencies of contemporary Ukrainian architecture. The presentations include moderated discussions with the audience.
The lectures will be held in English in the Emil Belluš Hall of the FAD STU at 6:00 PM.
06/10 David West - Studio Egret West
David West is a founding partner of the Studio Egret West studio. He works at the intersection of urban visions, architecture and contextual interventions, particularly in large and complex regeneration projects. His studio focuses on high-quality density, ecological thinking in the landscape, mixed-use urban communities and the “second life” of sites. Studio Egret West is also preparing the major ESET Campus project in Bratislava and West is co-author of the publication A Smartly Growing City on polycentric Bratislava. Their work also includes an adaptation of the iconic brutalist Trellick Tower in London.
20/10 John Allan - Avanti Architects
John Allan is the director of Avanti Architects and is best known for his work in the field of conservation and restoration of modernist architecture. Avanti specialises in the reconstruction and modernisation of listed modernist buildings, as well as the integration of new buildings into historic or otherwise sensitive environments. Allan has also written on Lubetkin, the modernist movement and the conservation of modernist buildings.
03/11 Adam Caruso - Caruso St. John Architects
Caruso St John are renowned for their sensitive adaptation of existing buildings and for their approach to historical context and materials. They won the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize in 2016 for Newport Street Gallery – a conversion of several industrial Victorian buildings, the connection between new and old and the high quality of detail. Their work also includes internationally renowned projects such as the renovation and extension of Tate Britain and Newport Street Gallery in London. More recently, they have focused on sustainable architecture through the adaptation of existing structures, as exemplified by their award-winning Royale Belge in Brussels – the conversion of a Brutalist office building to a new use.

Owen Hatherley is a writer, critic and historian, specializing in 20th century architecture and urbanism. She is particularly interested in modernism, post-war planning, socialist and communist environments, and how built environments reflect social and political history. 01/12 Cristina Monteiro - DK-CM Studio
Cristina Monteiro is co-founder of the London-based studio DK-CM, which combines architecture, research, and strategy with an emphasis on social and environmental impact. Her work is a recurring theme in adaptive reuse of existing buildings, building stock diagnostics, and designs that emphasize resilience, low carbon footprint, and long-term sustainability. The studio works on both cultural and public projects.
08/12 Clementine Blakemore - Clementine Blakemore Architects
Clementine Blakemore is a young London-based architect known for her emphasis on craftsmanship, materiality, and the social dimension of architecture. Her studio focuses on smaller but significant projects (often participatory or partly self-help) that combine sustainability, natural materials and community involvement. Examples include the music pavilion for St John’s School or the Wraxall Yard project in Dorset.
