Students from the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava achieved significant success at the international student competition Urban Design Award, organized by the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague.
In the jubilee 30th edition of this prestigious competition, Nina Belásová and Victoria Betušová took 1st place for their project New Town - Banská Bystrica. These third-year bachelor's students in Architecture and Urbanism presented a studio work envisioning a new sustainable urban district. The project was developed at the Institute of Urbanism and Spatial Planning under the supervision of Ing. arch. Karol Gorner, PhD., associate professor.
However, FAD STU's successes didn't stop at the victory. 3rd place went to Bc. Róbert Lipták for his project Transformation of the Winter Port, which focuses on transforming a significant brownfield site in Slovakia's capital. The project was created at the Institute of Ecological and Experimental Architecture under the supervision of doc. Mgr. art. Martin Uhrík, ArtD.
Another accolade—the jury's commendation—went to Bc. Nikoleta Mitríková for her project Beyond Suburbia, which addresses the issues of suburbanization and seeks sustainable forms of residential development. The project was developed at the Institute of Ecological and Experimental Architecture under the supervision of Ing. arch. Tibor Varga, PhD., and Ing. arch. Lukáš Šíp, PhD.
